About the Event

High Schoolers, we have something special just for you! A day specially crafted for our AAPI teens, our Youth Summit was conceived on the premise of paying it forward, having those that have lived and learned share their experiences with AAPI youths just emerging from their own educational journey and discovering their world beyond.

Themed “Roots & Routes: Making Your Mark”, our inaugural summit is a partnership with Gold House and will feature speakers and panelists Bobby Hundreds, Payal Kadakia, Amy Liu, Ellen Chen, Ted Wu, Ron Escopete, Sherry Cola, Tiffany Yang, and Gold House panelists: Sean Malto, Twaydabae, and Pia Barlow, as well as a networking fair targeting the latest opportunities and trends. Students can take this one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn about themselves AND connect with leaders, creators and innovators who are there just for you. This is an event unlike any other speaker event or career fair you’ve attended, don’t miss out!

The Youth Summit takes place live in Los Angeles on October 26th at Campbell Hall. We will also be streaming the event live for students around the country. Register now as this is a highly anticipated event that is free for all students, and we have very limited space for our live event!

Who is This For?

This is for passionate high school students eager to explore their cultural identity and heritage. We welcome those from diverse backgrounds and various socioeconomic statuses.

We’re looking for future interns, changemakers, and founders interested in learning about different career paths. Our students are multi-hyphenated, curious, passionate, and transparent.

Youth Summit is a highly anticipated event that is free to all students.

Bobby Hundreds, a Korean-American, is the co-founder and creative director of The Hundreds, a popular Los Angeles-based streetwear brand known for its blend of California culture, punk, and hip-hop influences. He is also an author and an influential figure in the fashion industry, advocating for community and storytelling.

Payal Kadakia is an Indian-American entrepreneur, artist and investor. She is the founder of ClassPass which was recently acquired by Mindbody and the founder of The Sa Dance Company. Payal has previously been listed as Fast Company’s 100 Most Creative People and was named to Fortune’s 40 under 40 list. Payal is a national bestselling author of the book, LifePass: Drop Your Limits, Rise to Your Potential.

Amy Liu, a Taiwanese-American, worked for 15+ years as a beauty executive at top prestige companies, including Smashbox, Kate Somerville, and Josie Maran Cosmetics. But as an eczema sufferer, she couldn’t even enjoy the company products, inspiring her to create Tower 28—a beauty brand that’s 100% clean, vegan, inclusive, and free of all known skin irritants.

Ellen Chen, a Chinese-American founder of Mendocino Farms, stepped down to support female and minority-led businesses. With 20 years of experience, she helps founders operationalize values and avoid pitfalls. Ellen serves on the boards of Mendocino Farms and Sugared + Bronzed, advises startups, and is a founding board member of TeachAAPI and AAPI LA.

Ted Wu, a Chinese-American designer, is Senior VP and Global Head of Design for Vehicles and Building Sets at Mattel. He oversees Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Disney Pixar Cars, Thomas & Friends, and MEGA Building Sets. Under his leadership, Hot Wheels has achieved six consecutive years of record sales, making Hot Wheels die-cast cars the world’s top-selling toy.

Ronald Escopete, a Filipino-American, is Chief Operating Officer at BEK Foods / BobaBam, brings 29 years of experience in transportation, supply chain, and logistics management. He co-founded Cargo One Inc. in 1999, growing it into a $40M company before selling it to Naigai Trans Line. Ron holds an MBA from Georgetown and a Bachelor’s in MIS from Bradley University.

Sean Malto is a Filipino-American professional skateboarder renowned for his smooth style and technical prowess. He has earned numerous accolades in the skateboarding world, including winning the inaugural Street League Skateboarding Championship, and is one of the sport’s top influential figures.

Sherry Cola is a Chinese-American comedian, actress, and writer known for roles in “Good Trouble,” “Joyride,” “A Family Affair,” and the upcoming “Nobody Wants This.” Born in Shanghai and raised in Southern California, she gained recognition through stand-up comedy and is a prominent voice for the Asian-American community in entertainment.

Tiffany Yang, a Taiwanese-American entrepreneur, is the cofounder and CMO of Sweety, a mochi ice cream company. Originally a family business, Sweety’s successful revival during the pandemic stands as a remarkable comeback story, reflecting the team’s resilience and determination to build on their family’s entrepreneurial legacy.

Pia Chaozon Barlow is a Filipino global brand and content marketer at the intersection of tech and entertainment. As EVP of Originals, Multicultural, and International Marketing for Max, she oversees programming for HBO and Max originals including House of the Dragon and Euphoria. She holds a BA from Dartmouth and is involved with G.E.M.A. and ATAS.

Chef Tuệ Nguyễn, also known as Twaydabae, a rising culinary star, immigrated from Vietnam at 8, overcame homelessness, and self-funded culinary school. She gained fame through recipe videos and pop-ups, leading to a partnership with The h.Wood Group to an acclaimed new restaurants in LA, DiDi. She launched her own Fish Sauce and will release a cookbook this fall.

Geraldine Viswanathan, an Indian-Australian multi-hyphenate, has been recognized by The Hollywood Reporter and received the Rising Star Award at TIFF 2019. She recently wrapped Marvel’s Thunderbolts and stars in Drive-Away Dolls and You’re Cordially Invited. She is best known for her roles in Blockers, Miracle Workers, and Bad Education, and Hala.

Charlene Huang is the Vice President of Music Production at Netflix Animation, where she leads the music production team across a robust slate of original animated features and event series. She is the former Director of Music at DreamWorks Animation. Over the past 5+ years at Netflix, Charlene has helped bring music to life in over 20 films, including acclaimed original animated titles such as The Sea Beast and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, winner of the 2023 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, making Netflix the first streamer to win in this category. During her eleven-year tenure as Director of Music at DreamWorks Animation, she worked on nineteen films, including popular iconic film franchises such as Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar, and How To Train Your Dragon. Outside of the corporate film studio setting, she has acted in the capacity of music consultant to entertainment industry clients, including New Line Cinema, Laika, DreamWorks Animation, and NBCUniversal. Charlene’s qualifications as a leader and music executive are deepened by her own experiences as a business owner, studio musician, performer, and music contractor. After receiving her violin degree from Manhattan School of Music, she moved to Los Angeles, where she landed a job with world-renowned film composer, Hans Zimmer, signaling the start of a 20-year career trajectory. She has recorded on numerous film, TV, and video game scores, as well as performed in hundreds of shows at major venues throughout the US. She has performed and recorded with notable artists such as Dr. Dre, Adele, Pharrell, Guster, fun., Wu-Tang Clan, and The Used. Charlene is committed to sharing insights from her diverse film and music industry experiences with the next generation of emerging talent, while leveraging her critical and creative thinking skills to promote positive change. As a passionate artist advocate, she is devoted to helping composers and musicians collaborate with creators and studio executives to bring their impactful stories to the screen through music.
