St Louis’ Chinatown Existed for Nearly 100 Years

This mini lesson includes a video that tells the story of St. Louis’ Chinatown, which existed for nearly 100 years before being destroyed for a baseball stadium project. Peter Tao is working with the Missouri Historical Society to uncover and preserve the rich history of this community, which included laundromats, restaurants, and organizations like the On Leong Merchants and Laborers Association. Along with historical context, speaker notes, and age group specific discussion questions, teachers can facilitate this as an opener/closer to a lesson or during May AANHPI Heritage Month.
